Perspectives on Mogul News are a curated selection of stories from the world’s leading publishers. They aim to give you different viewpoints on important issues that face us, and society as a whole.

In this week’s Perspective, we look at the Bretton Woods Conference. Here’s a quick note from our editor about the issues covered in this week’s Perspective.

The global economic order that underpins much of our world today was created as a result of The Bretton Woods Conference. During the July 1944 Conference, 730 delegates from 44 Allied nations attended.

The outcome of that meeting created a new post-Second World War order. The International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the World Trade Organization all had their beginnings at Bretton Woods.

Despite celebrating its 75th birthday, the Bretton Woods system is under threat. Populism, protectionism and nationalism are endangering the conference’s liberal consensus.

In this week’s Perspective, we look at the future of globalisation and the world created by Bretton Woods. We also consider its achievements, successes and failures.

The system has seen so many raised out of poverty, but can it endure the 21st century? Or will a wave of deglobalisation replace it?
